Opening in December 2021 on Research Boulevard, Simar Seafood Cocina is the only seafood restaurant in Austin that offers a variety of authentic coastal Mexican dishes. Specializing in raw seafood, Simar Seafood Cocina is the perfect spot when you want to experience patio seating in a family-friendly atmosphere. Some of their specialties include fresh oysters on a half shell, several ceviche options, and lobster tail stuffed with shrimp. Simar Seafood Cocina also offers a happy hour menu that includes a variety of cocktails and appetizers. They often feature live music during the evening hours, including Mariachi Night and Marimba Friday. When you’re looking for authentic Mexican seafood with a laid-back atmosphere, stop by Simar Seafood Cocina.
2. Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine

Delucca Gaucho Pizza & Wine opened in July 2022 on Braker Lane. This newly established restaurant is a staple across Texas, with locations previously opened in Fort Worth, Dallas, Plano, and South Lake. Seating in the restaurant fills up quick, particularly on the weekends, so they recommend placing a reservation ahead of time. Currently, they are open for limited hours – 4:30-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4:30-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday – but they intend to offer lunch and brunch options in the future.
One of their popular meal options is their tasting menu. For one fixed price, you can try a sample platter of their specialties, including a daily selection of handcrafted pizzas, chef-made lobster bisque, house-made Kobe meatballs and San Marzano sauce, and rocket arugula with a lemon honey vinaigrette. To finish off your meal, try one of their gourmet dessert pizzas that have unique toppings like Brazilian guava marmalade with sweet mascarpone and sweet vanilla mascarpone with Italian Nutella.
3. Carnitas El Guero
Carnitas El Guero has been an Austin hotspot since 2016, when it started as a cash-only, to-go stop. In 2021, they opened their location on North Lamar Boulevard with seating and an expanded menu that includes tostadas, gordiates, and quesadillas. The first location’s success led to the second being built in North Austin. Open until 2 a.m., you can satisfy your Mexican cravings with a special late-night menu. While there are a variety of savory options on their menu, the carnitas from Carnitas El Guero has become a popular choice for owners of North Austin real estate.
4. The Pitch
When you’re looking for a dining experience that is more than a restaurant, you have to check out The Pitch, which opened in February 2022 as a food court and entertainment space. Adjacent to Parmer Field, The Pitch is the perfect location to get a bite to eat with family and friends while you enjoy live or broadcast sports. You will have several North Austin restaurants to choose from at The Pitch, including Corner Kick Bar, Smoke Show BBQ Melts, Taco Flats, Ga Roti Vietnamese, and Ranger Burger.
The main space features a huge 15-foot screen, several smaller screens, and outdoor seating. The area also houses an event center, outdoor stage, sand volleyball court, and a two-third-mile jogging trail. Throughout the week, they host many events that are open to the public including trivia nights and pickleball tournaments. The Pitch also offers space for events of any size, which will be the perfect spot for your next happy hour party, private event, or corporate event.
5. Taquero Mucho

When the founder of Gabriela’s downtown realized that many of her restaurant regulars were women, she decided to establish a restaurant by women for women. This idea turned into the original Taquero Mucho in downtown Austin in 2020. The original restaurant took off, and a second location was opened. Established in early 2022, the North Austin Taquero Mucho is easy to spot with its pastel pink decor, furniture, and signage. No matter what Mexican dish you are craving, you’ll find an appetizer, taco, or torta that will suit your tastes. Their classic pink margarita is a hit, as is their Actin’ Kinda Shady – a fun vodka rosé drink served with heart-shaped sunglasses. As a rather niche restaurant, Taquero Mucho offers several Instagrammable photo ops, including their signature tacos served in pink tortillas.
